The Ranchi University’s Central Library (Estd. 1962) is playing a key role in development and progress of Ranchi University, Ranchi which is
operating as a system of 9 sections which are as follows: Acquisition Section, Technical Section, Registration Section & Office, Administration
Section, Computer/INFLIBNET Section, Reading Section, Circulation Section, Reference and Research Section, and Periodical Section. This Library
caters to the information and knowledge needs of teachers; PG students; research scholars & Non-Teaching Staff of 30 RU departments & other
associated Units (more than 5000 users). It has collection of more than 1.12 lakh volumes consisting of Textbooks, Theses, Reference
Collection (Encyclopaedias, Dictionaries, Reports, Gazetteers etc.), Journals, and E-resources (more than 6000) comprising of e-journals and
databases etc. The Central Library is the member of Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre, Gandhinagar, and Developing Library
Network (DELNET), New Delhi. This Library is participating in the Library and Information Activities and programmes of these networks for boosting
and maintaining the learning culture of our university. For the implementation of the mechanism of plagiarism detection for research theses of the
University, the Central Library has played a great role in formation of the Plagiarism Detection Cell (PDC), RU, Ranchi. This library has also
worked for implementation of the Shodhganga Project of the University. It is also guiding the Departmental Libraries.
The Central Library is an information and knowledge resource centre which has rich resources of textbooks as well as reference and periodical
collection to fulfill the requirements of the faculty members, research scholars and students of 30 University Departments under the faculties of
Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Commerce, and Tribal & Regional Languages. The Library has a total area of 9290 Sq. Mts. (Approx.) spread
over 3 floors in a separate building with ideal and friendly atmosphere.
